Provided by YP.comIf you want authentic Greek cuisine in Altoona, this is the place to go!!! Nothing fancy, but the food is outstanding! The owner/chef of the restaurant is actually from Greece and man can he cook! Being Greek myself, and raised on Mediteranean food, I am pretty picky when it comes to home cooked greek dishes! This place hits the mark everytime! I encourage you to try it!

Provided by YP.comGreat food--recommend the lamb gyros, spanikopita, mediterrianian chicken salad, the tzaziki sauce....actually, I've never had a bad meal there! Great prices and service--Lucy (the waitress) works really hard and is a wonderful person. She'll even give you free baklava on your birthday!!!

Provided by YP.comI tried this after beginning to eat Greek food after a trip to Florida in a town where many Greeks settled. I feel that the Athenian Cafe does a pretty good job for being in such a small town and being the only real restaurant of it's kind in the area. there is another that servers Meditteranean food and has a few similar items, but the other place is so high priced that I've never tried it.
Athenian Cafe is definitely worth a try if you like Greek food. they have all the specialties like pastichio and musaka along with desserts like baklava. I especially love their house dressing for on the salads plus the serving of pita bread you get with the meal.
soda by the can or bottle is availble, but no alcohol.
the enviornment is fairly basic, but have a few large pictures of the Greek countryside hung up.
it's never really too busy, but the owner as waitress works hard and keeps up with everything you need. her and her husband the chef are very personalbe people, and do a great job.
they also appear to do a large take out business with some businesses being near by. they're also easy to get to being relatively close to I 99 off the Frankstown exit for people to go to for personal take out reasons.
definitely worth a try. it keeps away my craving for authentic Greek food.

This was my first visit to the Athenian Cafe, and the food here was excellent. The dolmades were the best I've had, and I tried the Spanikopita and it was absolutely delicious. Even the pita bread was great! I felt like a lot of care and attention went into the food that came out of the kitchen, and it shows in the quality of the food. The price was also very good for what you get. My husband and I ate for about $30 including appetizer, dinner, and dessert. I will definitely be returning to indulge in their other delectables!
