As an employee, this may seem biased, however, Id like to offer my opinion anyway. Whatever your goals and motivations for wanting to do martial arts, Potomac Kempo is an awesome place to train! Way before deciding to teach it, I was just a student. Simply put, I was hooked within a month! I was looking for a fun and interesting way to workout and thought self defense was a worthwhile skill to learn. I immediately found how kempo helped me with my fitness and self defense goals, but also quickly noticed other benefits such as stress relief, improved memory and cognitive function, social camaraderie, and just plain FUN! Several years later, I couldnt be happier with my life!
I really can't say enough about USSD. The instruction I have received since beginning my journey in the martial arts has been phenomenal!!! The system is great for those without previous martial arts experience. The best thing is the individualized attention you get in your private lesson, which is rare to find in a karate school. I started going to the dojo once a week only to my private, but I quickly realized that the more I went (e.g. private and group classes) the faster I progressed. I have also noticed a change in other aspects of my life which makes studying with USSD even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!!!!!
I've been a member of USSD for almost three years. The instructors are very skilled in teaching self-defense/martial arts. I have met some great people through my dojo as well as getting a great work out. This has been one of the best experiences in my life.Before finding USSD I was interested in learning self-defense/martial arts but never took an opportunity. I was passing by one of their dojo's when I received a card for a free lesson and the lesson totally hooked me. I know that they still give out free lessons to anyone who is interested. I recommend that you take them up on their offer.

I take classes at both the USSD Studio in Kingstowne and Old Town. I have even been to the studio in Foxchase. It is nice to have 3 studios to choose from. Instruction is very professional. Price is not cheap but well worth it. If I do not sweat during a workout, it is my own fault. I originally joined because I was not using my gym membership and wanted a fun way to get back into shape. I have lost 27 lbs since I started (almost 13% of my original body weight) and increased my balance and flexibility. My wife joined with me to learn self-defense and build confidence. She is well on her way. We look forward to classes every week. Hope to see you in class.
USSD helped me realized I want to be involved in martial arts for the rest of my life. I've been going a few times a week for over a year now and I still get excited to go and learn new techniques, get a good workout, and interact with friends and great instructors. The private lessons are so valuable and the group classes just help reinforce what you learn. Plus you can work yourself out in the dojo any time you want!
I have been a student of the martial arts for many years now, but only a student of United Studios for the past few years. Of all the places I've studied martial arts United Studios is by far the most rewarding experience I've ever had! United Studios has a very diverse schedule of classes to fit every schedule and every student enjoys both group and private lesson instruction. Having experienced dojos with only group classes, I can attest to how nice it is to move at your own pace and not have to learn all of your material in group class. My skills and love for the martial arts have continued to grow at USSD and I would recommend to anyone that they try it out and learn to push themselves in new and exciting ways to become a more rounded individual.

I have been a student at USSD for several years now. I also have two daughters who are enrolled. The instruction has gotten me in shape physically and mentally. For my daughters I feel they are learning skills that will last a lifetime. Their martial arts training has paid off with better discipline at home and at school as well as re-enforcing to them that they can accomplish anything they set their mind too. USSD is worth every penny.
