Founded in 1986, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the creation of a network of trails throughout the United States. The organization, also known as RTC, has more than 100,000 members and supporters. It is one of the largest trails organizations in the U.S. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy maintains regional offices in California, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The organization provides information, technical assistance and training programs for local trail builders. Additionally, it encourages trail use and development by providing trial access, maps and resources through its online trail-finder, www.TrailLink.com. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has acquired over 650 miles of corridor.
