General Info
Dr. Marc Siegel is the Division Director and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the George Washington (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He obtained his medical degrees from Georgetown University and completed his Internal Medicine training at Georgetown University Medical Center. After completing his residency, he established and ran his own medical practice in York Maine for six years before returning to Washington DC in 2007 to pursue a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at GW. In August 2009, he joined the faculty at the Medical Faculty Associates (MFA). His initial research focused on the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in monoinfected and coinfected patients. In 2012, GW was invited to become a trial site for the HIV Trials Prevention Network (HPTN), and as a result Dr Siegel started working with Dr Magnus of the Milken School of Public Health (SPH) to run HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) trails here at the MFA. This ongoing collaboration has resulted in the successful completion of six HPTN PrEP trials. Dr Siegel is currently the Principal Investigator (PI) on 2 active Phase 1 PrEP trails looking at the safety of monoclonal antibodies for HIV Prevention. With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Siegel also became one of the co-investigators for the Moderna and Sanofi SARS-CoV-2 vaccine trails here at the MFA, as well as the PI for 3 inpatient trails for hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19. He is married to his wife, Cema and has 2 sons, Lucas (18) and Leo (16).
