What is a Color Pallet?

Perhaps one of the most important factors in successful interior design is using effective, appealing color pallets throughout the decorated space. A color pallet (sometimes spelled color palette) is a designated set of specific hues of colors that work well together to be used in a design project. Color pallets are important in all kinds of design, from fashion to graphic design, but interior designers work with colors in special combination to influence the cohesion of all the elements of the rooms, places, and spaces of our everyday lives.
Constructing a Color Pallet
Color pallets are expressions of personal style and preference. Often, designers choose one patterned item they like and want to feature in the room, and they build the color pallet off of this. For example, a designer may choose a light, medium, and dark color from this patterned item to use as the foundation for your color pallet. A good idea might be to go to the paint department at a hardware store and to pick out some color chips that exactly reflect the colors you have chosen as your base. Light colors should be used in the background, medium colors in the large furniture and windows, and darker colors should be used as accessories.
It is possible for interior decorators to purchase a pre-existing color pallet of colors that work well together in order to serve as a basis for their own interior design. Sometimes, colors are organized on sheets as a row of boxes, and each color used in the design fills one box on this sheet. This sheet can be used as an interior designer picks out furniture, draperies, accessories, and other materials for a designed space, ensuring consistency throughout the designer’s work.
If you are beginning an interior design project, you can create also your own color pallet from scratch. You can begin by selecting colors you like, and then finding other colors that complement the initial colors you have selected. It is possible to go online and search for a color pallet generator, so that by selecting a few key colors, a machine can pull in other colors that will work with what you like. It is important to have a variety of hues and intensities in your design to create a feel of balance and harmony within your interior decorating. This balance will help visitors to a room feel safe and relaxed. When you begin decorating, simply select the materials for your room that you like in the color pallet you have chosen.
