Many a parent has searched for perfect toy storage units to house the seemingly endless supply of games, blocks, dolls, trucks, etc., that go hand in hand with childhood. Just what is the perfect toy storage solution? This is clearly a dilemma with no “one size fits all” answer. There are many factors to consider, like the size of the space, the number of children, the amount of toys needing storage, the furnishings in the room, the location of the toy storage unit, the decor, etc. All of these factors will need to be considered before the perfect toy storage unit dilemma can be solved. Below are a few options to help parents get their creative juices flowing:

  1. One of the simplest solutions is to purchase a large plastic storage bin in an appropriate size to fit the available space within a room, or ones that can be slid under a bed to maximize storage space.
  2. Toy chests are another common solution to the toy storage problem. There are dozens to choose from, both new and recycled. However, parents must make sure toy chests come with the safety feature that will not allow the lid to close down on little explorers. Parents should also make sure the chest is not so deep that children tumble into them head-first, while trying to reach their toys.
  3. Ottomans with storage areas are another popular storage solution for smaller toy stashes. Families typically hide blankets/afghans in them, but who says toys can’t take up residence there, too.
  4. Cedar chests (hope chests) are another great solution for toy storage. The benefit it that when children are no longer playing with the dolls, cars, or coloring books, the chest can still be utilized for their treasures.
  5. In the event that you home is lacking in available floor space, there are few other options – look UP! Suspend toys above the floor/furniture using mesh compartments. There are mesh hammocks to house stuffed animals and mesh baskets that are suspended from ceilings, or door frames that can house an assortment of kiddie clutter.
  6. Over the door organizers are another option for the smaller items that never seem to have a home. The pockets can house crayons, pencils, clay, dolls, clothes, etc. and the can all be hidden with an open door.

Traditional toy storage units are not the only option for today’s parents, toys have gotten more sophisticated and so can parents when thinking up ways to solve kiddie clutter.
