A medical spa, also known as medspa, is a combination of a medical clinic and day spa that is operated under the supervision of a medical doctor. While they do offer relaxing treatments, such as massages and body treatments, a majority of their services are related to enhancing their clients’ appearance. Here is a guide to the top 10 medical spa services.

  1. Botox – Treat crow’s feet and facial wrinkles in the forehead and between the eyes with Botox injections, which work by weakening the muscles that produce facial expressions. The contraction of muscles is relaxed by blocking nerve impulses. The end result is muscles that no longer contract and cause wrinkles to relax and soften. It usually takes two to four days to see any results, and the effects can last anywhere from four to six months.
  2. Chemical Peels – Reduce the appearance of wrinkles of the effects of sun damage, acne scars, blemishes, or uneven skin pigmentation with a facial peel. Your doctor will apply a chemical solution, including glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, or phenol. The solution will produce a controlled wound, which may take several days to heal, at which time new, regenerated skin will emerge.
  3. Collagen Cosmetic Fillers – Collagen is injected through a small needle directly into your wrinkles, skin creases, or skin folds. The collagen plumps up the skin, smoothing out wrinkles and creases and correcting blemishes.
  4. Laser Hair Removal – Gently remove unwanted hair with laser hair removal. This method works by emitting a gentle beam of light onto the desired area. The light paralyzes the hair follicle and leaves the surrounding skin unharmed.
  5. Microdermabrasion – This is another form of a facial peel that helps leave your skin smooth and rejuvenated. Your doctor will administer aluminum oxide crystals onto your skin surface under pressure, similar to mild sandblasting, and then suction them away. This process removes dead skin cells and cleans pores, leaving skin look clean and refreshed.
  6. Photo Facial – There are two types of photo facials: LED (light-emitting diode) and IPL (intense-pulsed light). An LED photo facial is a gentle treatment that aims to create plumper, younger-looking skin by boosting collagen, or to kill the bacteria that causes acne. An IPL photo facial is more intense and can treat a variety of skin conditions such as brown spots, broken capillaries, spider veins, and facial redness.
  7. Mesotherapy – This is a procedure that targets problem areas with microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medicines, vitamins, minerals or amino acids. Injections are delivered directly into the middle layer of skin to treat conditions such as cellulite, wrinkles, and fat deposits.
  8. Laser Skin Resurfacing – Improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars and discolored skin with the help of laser light. Consult with a local medical spa in to determine which type of laser best meets your needs. There are several different kinds of lasers that work at various layers of the skin to treat acne scars, wrinkles and age-related skin discoloration.
  9. Laser Body Sculpting – Doctors can now use non-invasive techniques to help treat fat bulges and tighten skin. There is less swelling and bleeding associated with laser body sculpting, and the whole procedure takes less time compared to liposuction. Plus, results are visible much quicker.
  10. Acupuncture – This traditional Chinese procedure works by inserting fine needles at key points of the body that relate to different organs to relieve muscular, neurological, and arthritic problems. Some experts believe acupuncture can also balance your body’s energy, or Chi.
