Self Storage Containers

Self storage containers are a great way to purge a space for storage, but do renters really make the best decisions when determining which items should be stored? Do sorters really do what they’re supposed to do in preparation?
According to some of the listings for storage facility auctions, there is typically a great deal of junk to be found in most paid storage facility areas. Since ‘one man’s junk can be considered another man’s treasure’, we’ll eliminate the things that just may not appeal to one’s sense of “taste”, and stick to things that just about anyone can clearly deem to be “junk.” These things include: broken items which do not even include the broken pieces, non-working large and small appliances, old magazines and newspapers that have to real historical significance, clothes that are very outdated, worn, and/or stained, furniture that is in clear need of reupholstering at a minimum, but many pieces that are broken beyond costly repairs, etc. Given the current economic trend, more and more storage facilities are having auctions due to non-payment. Renters could alleviate the extra costs for larger facility storage space by actually purging their spaces before packing their self storage containers.
When purging a home for any reason, one should sort items into three piles – the save, donate and discard piles. When purging for self storage containers, remember that “saved” items are going to cost money to be stored, so sort with a discerning eye. Do you like the item well enough to pay to store it month after month? If it’s broken and considered a treasure, get it fixed before putting it into storage. Unless it is an antique, if an item goes into storage broken, it will typically never be repaired and the renter is wasting valuable space. Never store old magazines, newspapers, etc. Not only can they hasten a fire, if one were to start, but they provide awesome conditions for pests of all kinds. If an item has a stain, wash it before it goes into storage. Dirty clothing/linens/fabric can also attract pests.
Self storage containers make it easy to purge a space, but renters should make sure they’re getting the best value out of the space they’re purchasing. The only way to make this happen is by seriously purging and organizing the items to be stored in the storage container.
