Security Alarms for Apartments

Homeowners are fortunate to have the ability to install state-of-the art security alarms in their homes without worrying about the constraints of rental agreements or leases that forbid modifications to their homes. For years, apartment renters have been blocked from comprehensive security packages for this very reason. In recent times, however, security technology has evolved to allow apartment renters to install sophisticated security alarms in their rented or leased homes. Also, more and more apartment complexes are installing security alarms when they construct the buildings.

Wired Systems

There are two main types of security systems for apartments, wired alarm systems and wireless alarm systems. While wired alarms require an electrician to come and cut holes in the walls to do wiring and physically connect all entry points to the system which emits a loud alarm if any entry point is opened while the alarm is set, wireless alarms rely on radio waves to secure a home’s perimeter and require less maintenance to remain reliable and effective.

Wireless Systems

Wireless alarms work by emitting a loud alarm if there is a break in the radio waves if a door or window is opened while the alarm is set. Most professional installations for wireless alarms only take only a couple of hours, and the only tools required are a few pieces of equipment and screws to get the system up and running properly. As a result, wireless alarm systems are much more cost-effective because they require no wiring to be installed through the walls and leave the apartment structure intact. Wireless alarm systems and Wired alarm systems cost around the same amount of money for the hardware, but the installation for the wired system costs more money because it is more time-intensive for electricians. Another benefit to wireless alarm systems is that they are designed for apartments and are easily uninstalled when the renter moves to a new location.

Deterring Burglars

Fortunately many apartment management companies are recognizing the benefits of installing security alarms in their units. Security alarms ultimately deter burglars from entering apartments unauthorized and raise the value of the apartments. This is a one-time cost when building the apartments that adds perceived value to a rental price and is a selling point when advertising apartment amenities. This is also helpful for renters since all they need to do is pay an alarm company to monitor the pre-installed security system.

Like never before, renters now have options for security alarms in their homes, even if these homes are only temporary. For as little as a few dollars, renters can purchase a simple door alarm. For those who wish to purchase a more elaborate system for apartments not pre-wired for an alarm system, many wireless security alarms exist. Regardless of whether or not an apartment comes with a pre-installed alarm, it is now easier than ever for renters to provide necessary security for their temporary homes.
