All RV parks are not created equal. If you’re looking for a place that’s going to help you make the most of your recreational vehicle camping experience, here are some things to consider.

RV Park’s Location

When it comes to RV parks, location means different things to different people. For some, a good campsite location is one that is near the water, in the mountains, or by the woods. They’re looking for a place that’s quiet and secluded, with a lovely view of the landscape. Others may be less concerned with the proximity of nature and more interested in finding RV parks that are located close to the highway or within easy driving distance of the nearest shopping center.

RV Park’s Accessibility

Let’s face it. Even if you’re an old pro at handling your RV, it can still be a challenge navigating a crowded site and parking in a tight space. Wide roads and generous spaces between campers can make it easier to get around and spare you the frustration of those dreaded 15-point turns. Some RV parks even provide campsites with drive-through access, which makes parking that huge rig a breeze!

RV Park’s Amenities

At a bare minimum, most RV parks should offer electric, water, and septic/sewer connections. Other amenities can range from on-site facilities (restrooms, showers, etc.) to swimming pools and tennis courts. Most RV parks also provide wireless internet access, or at least offer hookups for internet and cable.

RV Park’s Nightly Rates

Rates tend to vary from $5 to $50 a night, depending on the popularity of the RV park’s location and the quality of its upkeep and amenities. On average, most privately-owned RV parks will charge $20 to $30 a night. Most RV parks charge lower rates during off seasons, and many offer discounts for seniors, frequent travelers, and RV camping club members.

RV Park’s Security

Security is one of those things most people overlook when choosing an RV park, but it should be a vital consideration. Most RV parks employ staff members to monitor the grounds and keep an eye on the campers and their campsites. Some have security lighting installed along the major roads and paths. The higher end RV resorts may have security fences with gated access.

RV Park’s Proximity to Attractions

Some people may choose an RV park because it’s located close to a popular local attraction. In fact, some RV parks may offer discounts to shows or parks in the area. Some may even provide shuttle service for those who don’t have alternate transportation and would rather not unhook their RV for a day trip.
