Advantages and Disadvantages of Private Preschools

If you want to jump-start your three- or four-year-old into preschool, you should consider enrolling him or her in private preschools. However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to doing so, and it is necessary to weigh these when deciding whether private school is a good choice for your child. Following are some pros and cons that can help you decide whether sending your child to private preschools is the right option for you:
Advantages of Private Preschools
One of the main advantages of private preschools is that schools and classes tend to be much smaller, which not only nurtures a sense of belonging and community, but also allows children to receive more individualized attention than they would in a public school. Statistics show that the average teacher-to-student ratio in private schools is 9:1 as opposed to about 17:1 in public schools. Another advantage of privately funded preschools is that parent involvement is often much stronger than it is in public schools. This is so for two reasons: private school authorities encourage parent participation in many school activities and parents of private school children often commit themselves fully to having a say in their child's education.
Disadvantages of Private Preschools
Probably the most prominent disadvantage that deters parents from sending their children to private preschools is the cost of tuition. While tuition rates vary substantially depending on the school you want to send your child to, paying tuition can be difficult if you have several children you want to enroll or if you are on a tight budget. Another disadvantage of private schools is that most of these do not offer any form of bus system for students, which means parents must bring their children to school and pick them up every day. This can be somewhat of a hassle if you work a full-time job and have no one to pick up your child at the end of the school day.
When it comes to enrolling your child in private preschools, it is important to consider both the advantages and disadvantages of doing so, as this can help you make the most informed decision possible. While there are always drawbacks to placing your child in any school, the benefits private schools offer generally far outweigh any negative aspects.
