Pearl Jewelry Can be Dressy or Casual

Jewlery and Jewelers

A popular country song includes the line: “She wore blue jeans with her pearls!” The Top 40 country artist uses the line to describe an unconventional girl full of contradictions, but the truth is, anyone can wear pearl jewelry with dressy or casual clothes and look great.

A single strand of classic white pearls can take you from day to evening wear. It can dress up the proverbial blue jeans and form fitting t-shirt, and or add a splash of brightness to the classic black dress. Pair pearl jewelry with diamonds for an elegant evening look, or combine pearls with gemstones for everyday wear. Bored by the same old single strand? Add a pendant to your pearls by means of an enhancer to personalize the look.

Pearl Jewelry by Day

Typically, designers view different-colored pearls as more casual, so dress up your favorite t-shirt or business sweater with pink, black or champagne-colored pearl jewelry to match your outfit. Pretty pastels add style to a sundress in the summer, while darker-colored pearls or even those in earth tones dress up your favorite winter sweater.

Few combinations look more striking than black Tahitian pearls falling just above the neckline of a crisp white shirt. Smaller pearls, measuring less than 7 mm in diameter, also come across as more suitable for daytime wear. Traditionally, younger women opt for smaller pearls, while older women can don pearls larger than 7 mm with grace and style.

Pearl necklaces come in various lengths. A 16-inch Choker strand or an 18-inch Princess length strand of pearls fits well with virtually any shirt’s neckline. For daytime wear, you can double up longer strands of pearls, such as the 36-inch Opera length, to create the look of two Princess strands. Don’t forget the matching pearl stud earrings, an easy-to-wear look that easily transitions from day to night.

Pearl Jewelry for Evening Wear

Few pieces of jewelry look more elegant than a gorgeous Princess-style strand of pure white pearls falling just above the neckline of an evening gown or the classic little black dress.

Longer lengths of pearl necklaces traditionally do well for evening wear, too. Layer two different lengths for a classic dressy look. But don’t be afraid to wear even the longest, 51-inch rope chain as a single layer for evening wear, or tie it in a knot near the center of your chest for an elegant look.

Regardless of your age, larger pearls suit evening wear very well. Teardrop-shaped pearl earrings with gold accents create an elegant complement to your pearl necklace. These are some tips for wearing pearl jewelry, but you should experiment to find your own favorite lengths, styles and colors to suit your tastes.
