There are thousands of different home builders in the United States, and most of these companies will produce their own new home designs. The homes can range from small, modest homes to huge mansions and everything in between. The designs of these new homes can vary based on the available space as well as certain design elements within the home. Here are a few ways in which a new home design can vary from one home to another.

Custom home designs

New custom home designs are limited only by the imagination and budget of the client. An architect will work with the client to create the ideal home design for the client, including the number and location of rooms and the style of the home. Different home styles include Mediterranean or Spanish villas, ranch-style homes, ultra-modern and countless others. Designers can create a custom new home design in any style conceivable with as many rooms as the client needs and has space for.

Neighborhood home designs

The home designs for typical neighborhood homes, whether in a working class neighborhood or a gated subdivision, will feature more subtle variations. Home builders will often build entire neighborhoods in a variety of different floor plans and styles designed for functionality and to appeal to different families with different needs. Size constraints of a neighborhood are going to limit the size of the homes. They will be one or two stories and have some combination of three or four bedrooms and two to three bathrooms.

Since the new home designs are not going to vary greatly in terms of function, good architects and builders will work to put their own unique designs within the home to distinguish them from other building companies. For example, one builder might design new homes with very distinct delineations between rooms, while another might offer a more open new home design by putting a pass-through area between the kitchen and living room. Another builder might have an even more open space where there is almost no distinction between the front entryway, kitchen and living area. This is just one new home design element that a builder might use to create a distinctive style.

While the different new home design elements are limitless when it comes to custom homes, they will be more subtle in a more traditional neighborhood home. The key is to find the design that best suits your taste and meets your family’s needs.
