Los Angeles: Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market

Do you enjoy sifting through racks of vintage clothing? Have you been known to spend hours in antiques shops? Do your brakes squeal to a stop at the sight of a garage sale? If so, then the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market is definitely the place for you.

Taking place once a month (the second Sunday of each month), the Rose Bowl Flea Market is one of the largest flea markets in the country. The event boasts more than 2,500 booths and has been known to draw as many as 20,000 shoppers in a given day. If you're having trouble picturing how big that is, just know that you could spend five hours here and still not make it all the way the market.

Of course, with all those rows of booths, it's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed on your first trip to the flea market. If you need to cut down on your shopping area, you'll be glad to know the booths are loosely grouped based on types of products sold. For example, vendors that sell mostly vintage clothes are grouped together, as are furniture retailers and other item categories. Maps are available that help you identify booth areas that you may be interested in.

General hours for the event are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $8 (cash only, children 12 and under are free) and it is worth knowing that no one is allowed in after 3 p.m. If you want to gain the upper hand on the crowd, you might consider paying $10 for the early bird admission. Doing so will let you enter at 8 p.m. (7 a.m. entrance is also available for $15 and VIP admission from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. is $20).

Parking for the event is free. However, given the massive crowds that show up, it is recommended you get there early.

Since the event is outside, consider bringing sunscreen to stave off sunburn. You might also want to bring water and food. Plenty of concessions are available, but they tend to be a bit overpriced. Also be aware that haggling is perfectly acceptable (so take marked prices with a grain of salt). Finally, if you plan on buying a lot, consider bringing some sturdy tote bags or a rolling cart.
