Great Kids Room Decorating Ideas

Parenting and Child Care

Decorating a kids room can truly be a fun project, as the more creativity and imagination you have, the better the result. Kids often have an opinion on how they want their room to look, and you can have a lot of fun together thinking of creative ways to pull together a theme or décor scheme. Here are some great kids room decorating ideas to help get your creative juices flowing.

Create a Wall Mural

Nothing picks up a room better than an eye-catching mural. This is one of the more versatile kids room decorating ideas, as there are many themes and options to choose from. Whatever decorating theme you’re going for, you should be able to find plenty of choices in that style. Of course, you can design and paint it yourself, but you can also opt to use a paint-by-number wall mural kit, decorative wall stickers, or even mural wallpaper.

Decorate the Lampshades

Whether you have a theme going in your child’s room or not, a kids room décor can always benefit from a decorated lampshade. Decorating a lampshade is simple and typically requires no more than colored craft paper, stencils, and a little glue. Cut out stenciled shapes, create a mosaic with mulberry papers, wrap crepe paper around the outside, or come up with your own creative design touches.

Create an Art Area for Your Child

If your child is creative or just enjoys art, a fun kids décor idea involves incorporating a space in the room where you child can get creative. This is most easily accomplished with chalkboard paint, where you can literally paint a workable chalkboard onto a portion of your child’s wall. You might also consider setting up an easel with some readily accessible markers or crayons (or washable paint if you feel comfortable with the potential mess). Finally, hang a clothesline and add some clothespins so your child can display his or her creations.

Get Creative with Paint

There are many ways to get creative with paint that add to a great kids room décor. Use stencils or wall stickers to create a striking wall border. Or get out the paint and let your family create a handprint border around the upper portion of the wall. You might also consider using glow-in-the-dark paint to paint stars on the ceiling. Dressers and bookcase can also be painted to fit the theme. If you like, you can get your child to help and turn it into a fun project you can do together.

Kids room decorating ideas are seemingly endless and only require a little creativity and ingenuity on your part. Once you decide on a theme or design scheme for the room, there are many different ways to create a really fun décor.
