Jogging clothes is a very huge market. With the assortment of offerings available it can be a little difficult for a novice jogger to determine what jogging clothes should be on hand. Here are several tips for basic jogging attire:

  • One of the most important items joggers need are their running shoes. However, socks should not be overlooked. A sock that locks in perspiration can cause blisters, athlete’s foot, and more. Socks should be comfortable, and not slide on the feet. Socks, like shoes are an individual preference, but trial and error typically is the solution for finding the right sock.
  • When shopping for jogging clothes, for safety reasons, be sure to wear clothing with reflective tape, especially when jogging in the early morning or evening hours.
  • Visibility is important when running at any time of the day. To this end, a brighter color of clothing may be one of the most important types of clothing any jogger should invest in.
  • The sports bra is an absolute necessity for women when jogging. A bra will provide support and comfort during the jarring produced by jogging. Bras are now available in materials designed to keep the body drier and cooler while jogging.
  • Hats should be worn when jogging as well. Not only will it help protect the eyes from the sun, but it will also help prevent sunburn on the tops of heads and will prevent heat loss during the colder months.
  • The type of shirt used by joggers is a personal choice. Many joggers swear by 100% cotton shirts, but when saturated with sweat, cotton shirts absorb the moisture, but can become weighted down. The newer moisture wicking fabrics are becoming favorites of fitness and sports enthusiasts. This material is also available in underwear and socks for superior moisture control.
  • Pants, shorts, or tights are typically worn on the legs for comfort and protection. The weather, personal comfort levels and fabrics will come into play when selecting clothing for legs. These days, cotton, or materials that bunch are rarely used. Comfort is the key. Materials that keep joggers dry and skin from irritation are the best, no matter the preferred length.
  • For winter jogging, be sure to take care of extremities like fingers and ears. Gloves and earmuffs, or warm caps, or headbands can fit the bill. Layering often works well to keep joggers dry from perspiration with a moisture wicking layer, and then a fleece layer for warmth and a wind breaking outer layer, since fleece on its own does not protect against wind chill.
  • For summer jogging some of the new clothing with SPF protection is an excellent way to keep things covered and protected from sun damage. Moisture wicking clothing can be quite effective during that time of year.

The right jogging clothes will help keep the jogger comfortable and safe in any kind of weather.
