When you decide to paint your home's interior, another critical choice often follows: does the scope and size of the job allow you to do it yourself, or will you require the assistance of interior painters (also known as a contractor)? There are many benefits to hiring a professional painter. Using the services of a painter can often prove to be an invaluable asset to your painting projects.

Efficiency/Equipment

Contractors have access to much more efficient equipment than a typical homeowner would, such as paint sprayers and specialty rollers. These make the paint jobs go far quicker, and in most cases, offer a higher-quality paintjob than a standard brush or paint roller. While it is true that this equipment can be rented, contractors, in most cases, have the necessary expertise to use them without incurring a higher cost (misusing a paint sprayer can easily waste paint and therefore money). Additionally, contractors sometimes have access to additional staff, which can increase the cost of a job, but also result in a much faster completion.

Experience

Contractors are often more experienced at interior painting jobs than the homeowner hiring them, and as such are able to complete the job more effectively. The interior painters are aware of the various municipal codes and/or regulations that may be in effect in your area, and if they will affect your paint job in any way.

Labor

The hardest (and often most expensive) part of any painting job lies within the labor itself; not just the painting, but also the prep work and the cleanup. It is a part of a contractor’s job to completely take care of preparing the work area (drop cloths, protective plastic, sanding, if necessary/applicable) and the cleanup afterwards. Additionally, if you hire a contractor to do it for you, you are available to do other things while they paint.

The main argument when deciding whether to hire someone or do it yourself is always a variant of quality versus cost. With professional interior painters, you pay more money, but get a higher quality job and faster completion. When doing it yourself, you may save money, but sacrifice time and labor. Once you factor in the cost of your own time, the cost of equipment you will need, plus the possibile mishaps and do-overs, you may find that hiring painters is well worth the money.
