No one gets a hot tub just for themselves, do they? Hot tubbing is one of the most popular summer activities, and as soon as they get it installed most spa owners start thinking about inviting their friends over. Keeping a few things in mind will help you throw a hot tub party that your friends will be talking about for months.

  1. First, prepare the hot tub early so it’s already at the optimum temperature when everyone starts climbing in. The amount of time it takes a spa to heat up varies from model to model, and the air temperature around the tub will have an affect as well. As a good rule of thumb, assume it takes about 30 minutes to heat the water one degree and plan accordingly. For the fastest heat-up, turn all the other features off and put the cover on. If you need to treat the water, do that when the water starts heating, so there’s no chemical smell by the time the party starts.
  2. Next, plan what you’re going to do when you aren’t hot tubbing. Unless you have one of the biggest models on the market, you’ll probably want to have more people over than you can reasonably fit in your hot tub. No problem! Set up a snack bar for light noshing, an area to dance and one or two other activities. That way, everyone’s having fun even when they’re not in the tub.
  3. As the host, you’ll be doing your best to make sure everyone’s having a great time, but you don’t have to do it alone. Some people can get a little self-conscious about hanging out in their swimsuits, and you don’t want them to be left out. Fortunately, fun is infectious, and once the party gets going everyone‘s going to want to go with the flow. Pick one or two of your more outgoing friends to help keep the fun flowing; with some good helpers, you’ll be able to have fun while ensuring everyone else’s.
  4. After that, it’s just the little details. Have a few extra towels and swimsuits on hand, just in case someone forgets theirs. Make sure the food is good but light, and that you have a good selection of drinks on hand; don’t forget about the designated drivers! Pick a wide spread of music so that everyone gets to hear their favorites; mp3 players are great for this. And most importantly, have a blast!
