Home renovations will beautify your home and increase its value. They range from building projects that alter your home's interior structure to outdoor improvements. Some projects will require the hiring of a contractor. Others you can do yourself.

The exterior home renovations you can do yourself depend in part on how much time and money you have. But time is moot if you hire the work out in cases that require a contractor, such as installing new siding or a patio.

Repainting your home's exterior is a big job, but it is definitely a home renovation you can do yourself. Landscaping is another project that you can accomplish with the mere addition of some trees and perennial bushes. You can also give your driveway and walkways a good cleaning. New light fixtures and screen or storm doors are relatively inexpensive and installable. If you want privacy, you can install a privacy fence with the help of a few friends and family. If you do, be sure to apply for permits and have your underground utility lines marked out ahead of time. Lastly, you can repave your driveway with asphalt. But it doesn't last as long as concrete, which requires the services of a contractor.

Interior home renovations you can perform yourself include various beautification projects that can be done to turn marginal areas like basements into livable spaces like a home office or recreational room.

A basic interior home renovation you can do is to beautify your walls by installing wood paneling, wallpapering, or painting. You can add new flooring yourself in the form of carpeting, laminate, tiles, or wood. Replacing appliances, cabinets, counters, fixtures, and sinks in the bathroom and kitchen are doable also. You can waterproof your basement, if it floods. And if you need more quiet in certain rooms, like a bedroom or bathroom, you can soundproof them. New doors and lighting fixtures are possible also.

Many exterior and interior home renovations call for the hiring of a contractor. But those you can do yourself will save you money, add to your home's appeal, and raise its value.
