Remodeling a home can involve updating the interior of a room or two to give your home a more updated look, or it can mean adding a whole new room onto your home to meet changing space needs. Different home remodeling contractors can work with you to create the updated rooms or new rooms that you want.

Remodeling a room

Kitchens and bathrooms are the rooms that people most often choose to remodel. For most people, remodeling a living room, dining room or bedroom simply means a fresh coat of paint and new furniture, nothing that would require the use of a home remodeling contractor. Kitchens and bathrooms are more difficult, meaning home remodeling contractors will need to handle the work.

Kitchen remodeling contractors can replace standard linoleum flooring with tile, remove existing cabinets and replace them with new ones and upgrade counter tops from laminate to marble. They can also replace appliances and even convert your kitchen from electric to gas or vice versa. Bathroom remodeling contractors can redesign a bathroom to provide a separate bathtub and shower area and new sinks and counters.

Adding a room

In some cases, adding a room can be a relatively simple job for home remodeling contractors. Enclosing your back porch to turn it into a climate-controlled sunroom is not particularly difficult for good builders and contractors. Other times adding a room requires some demolition and construction work.

A home remodeling contractor may have to remove part of a wall to create an area to build another room. A project like this will require a great deal of carpentry, electrical work, siding and other jobs to complete the new room and restore the home. In many neighborhoods there is no space to build outward on a one-story house, so the only solution is to add a second story. This process will involve all the work of building outward, plus there will be a roofer involved to open a space for the new upstairs room and re-shingle the roof.

There are a number of different ways to change the look of your home without picking up and moving. The type of work you want done on your home, whether it is interior work, exterior work or both, will determine how you choose from the different home remodeling contractors.
