Considering the variety of hair removal techniques that are available today, your first decision will be whether you want a permanent or a temporary solution. The other thing to consider is the area on your body that you are targeting for hair removal. It’s a good idea to do your research and gather information before making a decision.

If you are looking for a permanent hair removal option, electrolysis is a popular choice. With this technique, a little bit of electricity is applied to the base of the hair follicle which prevents it from growing again. The number of sessions required before the hair is permanently removed can vary depending on a variety of factors, but you should have a consultation to talk about what will work best in your situation. Since this technique is somewhat involved, you will want to look for a certified electrologist. The credential is a CPE, which stands for Certified Professional Electrologist.

Laser hair removal is a newer option, although it may not be a permanent solution for everyone. It is generally considered safe if done properly, but there is not a lot of historical data available about this technique yet because it is relatively new. Still, many people find it a good option and it is gaining in popularity. Similar to electrolysis, each individual hair root is targeted, but with laser hair removal it’s a short pulse of high energy light rather than electricity that is used. Both of these permanent hair removal techniques are not completely pain free.

Many salons and spas provide hair removal services that are not permanent but are longer lasting than shaving or depilatories. Waxing is a popular choice for hair removal as it can be used on any body hair including face, chest, back, arms, legs and bikini line. Sugaring is a similar method that uses a sticky paste rather than wax to remove the hair. Both techniques remove hair by pulling it out at the base, and the results, especially if done regularly, are long lasting (between 3 and 6 weeks) and don’t produce stubble like shaving or depilatories. When hair grows back in after waxing or sugaring, it has a natural tip which is softer than a hair that has been cut or dissolved at the skin line.

Eyebrow shaping is a simple type of hair removal that is performed at many salons. The main idea is to use the form of the brow to accentuate the facial features. Many people like to have this done professionally as it can be easy to overdo and it can be hard to know what flatters your own face. Threading has been gaining popularity for shaping eyebrows and removing unwanted facial hair. As the name suggests, a thread is used to trap hair and pull it out at the root. While this is a great way to remove hair without chemicals, it can be time consuming and a bit painful.

There are many hair removal options available. What you choose will depend on your comfort-zone with the technique and the area of the body that you are targeting. It’s a good idea to check with people who have had the different procedures to get some personal feedback on what they liked and didn’t like about each type of hair removal.
