For many people—especially young people—noticing gray hairs can be devastating, since this not only reminds you that you are aging, but can also transform otherwise-beautiful hair into a collection of dull and lifeless-looking strands. Many people first begin to notice gray hair in their 20s and 30s, since that is when your body stops producing melanin, which gives your hair follicles color. There is no known method of restoring your body’s melanin production, so there is no way to cure gray hair. However, there are a few solutions you can implement to cover up your gray hair and make it less noticeable.

Color Your Gray Hairs

One of the best ways to get rid of your gray hairs is to color your hair regularly—every six to eight weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows. While this does not get rid of gray hair entirely, it can allow you to transform your grays into any color you want without much hassle. Some manufacturers even formulate their hair colors to cover gray hair, which can be very useful if a significant portion of your hair is gray. If possible, however, you should visit a professional hair salon to color your hair, since hair stylists can recommend the best options for gray-hair treatment.

Cover a Few Gray Hairs

If you only have a few gray hairs, you can often visit a salon and get highlights to cover them. If you want to get rid of your grays without coloring your hair, however, you can simply pluck them yourself or get someone close to you to pluck them for you. If you want to avoid this frustration, you can use some mascara that resembles your natural hair color closely to cover your gray hair temporarily. If you prefer to avoid tampering with your hair entirely and simply want to cover your grays, you can wear a hat in public places.

Whether you want to cover your gray hairs or get rid of them entirely, following a few guidelines can help ensure you are successful. While there is no real way to get rid of gray hair other than plucking each hair individually, coloring your hair is usually the best way to mask your slowly graying hair and boost your self-confidence simultaneously.
