When planning a renovation, most homeowners focus on the interior. While we do most of our living inside the home, the outside is just as important! Exterior remodeling can add a great deal of value to a home and more importantly, make it look beautiful and more personal.

The first things most homeowners look at in exterior remodeling are the outside walls. Even the best wall treatment will need renovating after a decade or two of wind and weather. Fortunately, there are a variety of options available, so much that you may find yourself spoiled for choice!

When it comes to exterior walls, most homeowners ask: paint or siding? There are a number of external paints that can give your home the look you want, but even the best paint job only lasts so long. Vinyl and aluminum siding both outlast paint by decades, but take much more labor to install. The question is, do you want the work up front, or paced out over the life of the home?

Of course, there's more to walls than that! Instead of paint or siding, consider applying stucco. Stucco is an exterior cement that is a fairly easy and economical way to renovate your walls and give your home a unique look. You might also consider adding stones; it's more time-consuming, but sure to boost your curb appeal and last a long time.

When you're happy with the walls, look at the windows. The right windows for the right house are absolutely necessary to get the look you want. Updating windows and trim is a very simple project with a high return on investment, thanks to increased curb appeal. Modern vinyl windows look terrific and are much more energy efficient.

Don't forget about the entrance! The design of your home should draw the eye to the front entrance – it's what guests will look for first, and the last thing they'll see before they come in. There are a number of ways to spruce up the entrance way. Consider replacing the door, or repainting it to complement your new walls. Perhaps adding a cover to the front porch would look nice, and give you a focus for exterior remodeling? No matter what, make sure the way inside is clearly visible and easy to navigate – too much is just as bad as too little.

Whether you're just touching up the paint job or completely transforming the entrance, renovating the exterior is a worthwhile project that will make your home look and feel its best. Exterior remodeling is the finishing touch on a perfect home.
