There are two types of roll offs: closed and open ones. Open ones are common for demolition and construction projects, and closed ones are good for those who will be using a stationary compactor. There are even closed roll offs that have built-in compactors.

Be sure to honor rental times so that you don’t get charged for late fees.

Dumpster Container Considerations

Certain items may require special treatment during the disposal process and won’t be able to be tossed in a general dumpster. These may include asbestos, paint, large appliances and certain kinds of vegetation. Phone your local waste management department to determine the rules and protocol for disposing of hazardous items. Also consider items that can be reused, donated or sold. Salvage companies may pay for your scrap metal and other recyclables -- or at least pick it up for free.
