Popular Drapery Styles

Interior Design and Decor

Drapery styles seem to come and go much like that of clothing. Currently the most popular styles include those that have a casual rather than a stiff, formal look. Today’s economy demands that manufacturers offer a drapery that, while looking great at your window, also provides insulation from heat and cold at an affordable price. Eco-friendly materials and fabrics are an important consideration as well.

A drapery with tailored pleats gives a somewhat formal impression but is softened with extra length which is left “puddled” on the floor. Metal grommets at the top of your drapery fed onto a substantial looking rod give a masculine or sporty appeal, while the rod pocket drapery with its soft gathers may seem a bit more feminine. Any of these styles will add a couture quality to the design of your room.

Energy Saving Draperies

Lined with thermal fabric some draperies will also provide a barrier from extremes of heat and cold. Windows have a great impact on the expense of heating and cooling your home and a properly lined drapery can really make a difference. Certain linings also give the homeowner the capability of darkening a room at mid-day if needed, for example nap time or if your living area doubles as a home theater. Whatever your specific need, there are a multitude of lining options.

Natural fabrics and materials are being used more readily in the manufacturing of draperies due to consumer demand. A myriad of silks, cotton, even burlap as well as some natural fiber blends are available to the drapery connoisseur. Though these fabrics are considered to be “green”, don’t let the term fool you. Yes, of course you may select the color green, if that is your choice but these eco- friendly drapery materials come in every color, pattern and texture imaginable.

Draperies that Suit Your Style

Tailored and formal, masculine and sporty or soft and feminine, it’s entirely up to you to choose the drapery style that suits your own impeccable style and good taste. All of these looks can be toned down or cranked up to full volume according to the fabrics used. Imagine a formal pleated drapery made of burlap. Not so formal anymore, is it? Those sturdy metal grommets atop a flowing shimmer of ice blue silk or the rod pocket drapery in a bold black and cream stripe take on a whole new flair!

When making your selection, by all means consider your heating and cooling savings potential and doing your share for the environment but most of all have fun decorating your home with a drapery treatment that suits you and is an expression of your personal style.
