Advice for Dining Out Cheap

Dining Out

Dining out is often a major expense for people, and dining out cheap can be a big concern for those who are looking to slash their food budget. Fortunately, you don't have to eat at home every night or subsist on sub-par fast food. There are plenty of ways to dine out cheap at quality restaurants, with a little ingenuity and creativity on your part.

Advice for Dining Out Cheap

One of the best ways to dine out cheap is to look for coupons and special offerings from your favorite restaurants. Many restaurants will publish coupons in the local Sunday paper. These coupons may entitle you to a free appetizer or a free drink or may even provide you with a two-for-one meal. You may also be able to find coupons online that you can print from your favorite restaurants website.

Consider purchasing restaurant gift cards as well in order to dine out cheap. Often, especially at Christmas time, restaurants will offer you a bonus if you buy a gift card. Buy one for yourself to take advantage of the bonus if you know you are going to be eating there anyway. Other third party online sites may also offer discounts on restaurants for sale at a lower price than face value, or you may be able to score a deal on a gift card that someone else didn't want from online auction sites or Craigslist.

If you have a particular favorite restaurant, sign up for their mailing list and see if they have any sort of frequent-patron card or rewards. By joining their mailing list, you may be sent special offers or deals that are exclusive to subscribers. You may even get something, such as a coupon for a free appetizer or a free meal on your birthday, just for signing up.

For high end restaurants, watch for special promotions such as Taste-Offs or Food week promotions. Often, high end restaurants will all get together on certain weeks in the year and offer special lower priced meal deals to entice customers. Some high end restaurants also offer these special fixed priced menus on certain weekdays that are less busy in order to entice customers to come in.

Finally, you may want to consider dining out for lunch instead of for dinner. You can often get similar quality food for a fraction of the price of the dinner menu. Eat a late lunch and then you can just have a light snack for dinner so you can succeed at dining out cheap but still making your dinner out your main meal of the day.
