When most people think of concrete homes, the terms "beautiful" and "attractive" typically don't come to mind. While it is true that concrete has historically been used as more of a functional material than a design material, the truth is that concrete homes don't look anything like fallout shelters. These days, concrete has the flexibility and design properties necessary to deliver a gorgeous home setting that anyone would be excited to call home.

Colored Concrete

One of the biggest advancements in concrete technology that is helping it shed its utilitarian reputation is colored concrete. Thanks to advancements in dye technology, that boring gray color you're so accustomed to can easily be changed to any pigment under the sun. From warm undertones to bright and vibrant colors, concrete now has as many pigment options as traditional wall paint.

For additional flexibility, colored concrete can either be treated to deliver a matte finish, or polished and buffed to deliver a radiant shine. Concrete floors are the perfect application for a polished finish.

Stamped Concrete

Stamped concrete eliminates the need for concrete homes to incorporate drab, flat slabs of walls. Distinctive patterns, shapes and designs can easily be stamped into concrete to give your home a unique appearance and dramatic curb appeal.

Additionally, concrete can also be stamped in such a way that it mimics the appearance of stone, brick or even wood. When done correctly, the visual appeal of concrete is nearly identical to that of the more expensive and less durable alternative material.

If you would like to benefit from the functional benefits of concrete homes, but prefer the appearance of clay brick or stone, then another option is to simply cover the cement walls with a façade of your preferred material. This can easily be done, and thanks to the cost-saving benefits of concrete, will likely not be exorbitantly expensive.

Textured Concrete

Finishing processes such as texturing provide further design flexibility to concrete. Trowel or broom finishing can be applied to incorporate pleasant swirls or fan patterns into your cement floors or walls. Sandblasting can also be used to give concrete homes a two-tone color or antiquated appearance.
