Car bumper repair is one of the most common types of jobs performed at an auto body garage. If your bumper has been rear-ended in an accident, or suffered damage in another way, then it is important to get the problem fixed as soon as possible. This is not only for cosmetic reasons, but also because procrastination may lead to a more expensive repair in the long run.

Car Bumper Scratch Repair

A scratched bumper may be fixed in a number of ways. Depending on the type of bumper you have, a scratch remover kit may be an affordable option. These products are rubbed into the paint or plastic of the bumper to distort the surrounding area and fill in the scratch. However, scratch removers tend to only be effective on the smallest of scratches.

If the scratch has dug deep into your bumper, body putty may be used to seal it up. Once in place, the putty can be painted over with a matching paint color to erase all evidence of that unsightly scratch.

Car Bumper Dent Repair

Body putty may also be an effective solution for a car bumper dent. For such repairs, the auto technician will fill in the dent and sculpt it in such a way that it molds seamlessly with the rest of the bumper. This may serve as an adequate solution for small dents. However, on larger dents results may not be visually effective.

Many times, an auto body garage will simply suggest replacing a dented bumper. This may be more expensive, given the need to pay for the new bumper part, however the result will likely be worth the extra money.

Choosing a Car Bumper Repair Shop

When selecting a car bumper repair shop, it is important to take your time to ensure you find a trustworthy mechanic. Start by asking friends and family for recommendations on local shops. If you are filing a collision claim with your insurance agent, then you might also consider using an insurance-approved body shop. Such shops tend to be trustworthy and may even offer discount pricing to insurance customers.
