How to Choose the Perfect Café for Lunch

Dining Out

You have decided to go to a café for lunch. You may be going alone or you may be meeting friends, but how do you know which one to choose, especially if you haven’t tried any of them yet? Here are some ideas to help you decide.

Ask your friends – the best place to start is to ask your friends and family if they can recommend a good café. You known you can trust there judgment, especially if they recommend one that they go to often. Don’t forget to ask friends that have similar tastes in food and similar eating habits to you.

Study the menu – if you found a few places that you are considering, look at the menu before you sit down to eat. See if they offer a good selection of dishes and there are plenty that you like and fit with your eating habits. If you’re a vegetarian, for example, you don’t want to end up at a café with mostly meat dishes on the menu.

Breathe in the aroma – when you are passing by the café, does the smell of food lure you inside or does it make you hold your breath and walk quickly by? Smell is connected very closely to appetite and if the aroma of the food cooking doesn’t make your mouth water, then neither will the taste of the food.

Check out the hygiene – does the café look clean in the dining area? If it doesn’t, then chances are the kitchen isn’t very hygienic either. Do the servers quickly clear and wipe the tables? Is the silverware clean? If you want to know more about the hygiene of the kitchen you can look on line or in your local paper to find out what the café’s public health and safety ratings are.

Check out the critics – if you want to find out what other people who have eaten there thing, look online and check the reviews. There are many websites available which post customer reviews of local cafes. This is a good place to get a broad perspective on any eatery before you give it arty.

Check out the popularity – if the café is mostly empty for much of the time and servers are standing around looking bored, or chatting amongst themselves then the café obviously isn’t very popular which means the food probably isn’t up to par and you should give it a miss.
