Choose Your Bedroom Decor

Whether you are styling to accomplish a new or updated decorative scheme, bedroom décor takes careful planning. Consider these ideas when choosing your bedroom décor.

Conversation pieces

First and foremost, designers recommend starting with a conversational piece. Choose a fabric, piece of art, or photograph possessing enough impact to provide you with options that add life to your room with pastel flair, natural aura or daring brightness. One intimate conversational piece could be dried flowers from a loved one or a personalized letter. The basis of such a gift could be out of appreciation or romance and bedroom décor can easily emphasize that, though personal.

And, if possible, use a corner of your bedroom as your own. Meaning, throw over-sized pillows on the floor or bring in a chaise or small seating arrangement near a window to make a comfortable lounge area. Add a water fountain and varied candles to complete the serene feel.

Neutral colors

While complex, neutral colors are more than whites, browns and tans. These days, because of mass appreciation for contemporary design, neutral colors are chocolates, minty greens and light-hearted yellows, which are colors meant to heighten the senses. Formerly, these colors were used in living rooms blocked by bulky furniture, but today are found in bedroom decor. Be sure, however, to use color to play off of your conversational piece.

Functionality

Make clutter a thing of the past by taking advantage of all space. The scale of the furniture should suit the size of the room. Large furniture should be well-kept with few items on display. You can separate computer space from the actual bedroom with a wall divider or curtain. If furniture is too bulky for your bedroom, remove one piece in favor of adding shelving units to the closet. The framing of your bed is also critical to bedroom décor. If a more spacious bedroom is preferred keep the frame low or purchase a bed frame combined with underbed drawer space.
