Banquet Catering Tips

Advertisement:
If you are hosting an event that includes a banquet and need some banquet catering ideas, here are some things you'll need to consider.
- What kind of banquet will you be hosting? For wedding banquets, you'll probably need to plan for a formal atmosphere and menu. For business meetings or corporate awards banquets, you'll also want to keep things considerably formal. If, on the other hand, you're catering an informal lunch or a casual gathering, you can choose a menu that is a little less sophisticated.
- Before you select a banquet catering company, you should decide on your location and determine just what you'll need the caterer to provide. Not only will this give your caterer a better idea of what they'll need for setup, but it will give you an opportunity to rent tables, chairs, plates, silverware, or any other items you may need from the banquet catering service. If you haven't selected a location by the time you hire your banquet catering service, then the caterer may be able to offer some recommendations.
- When you're putting the menu together, be sure to discuss your thoughts with the chef. Don't just go through the banquet catering manager or sales representative. The chef will be able to let you know about any of his or her specialties, and can offer you suggestions on dishes that will compliment the entrée or entrees you've selected.
- Carefully consider the number of courses in your banquet. By offering small portions over several different courses, you'll ensure that your guests remain interested in the food without getting too full. As long as the dishes are well-presented in an attractive manner, your guests won't feel they've been shortchanged by the smaller portions.
- Bread can be a vital component of banquet catering, and yet it often ends up being considered as an afterthought. By offering a variety of breads in the bread basket, you can grab your guests' attention as soon as they sit down and be sure that everybody's individual tastes are being satisfied.
- Desserts don't have to be expensive or elaborate, but they should be interesting enough to impress your guests. Even if your other courses are perfect, a dull or lackluster dessert will stick in the minds of your guests. Dessert is the last food item you'll be serving to your guests, and your final chance to make a lasting impression on them, so do it up right!
Banquet catering can be a monumental undertaking, but if you keep these tips in mind, you'll be able to dazzle your guests and ensure that they're still talking about your event in the months to come.
