In a society that is increasingly embracing and depending on advances in technology that help improve everyday life, advanced security systems are a welcome option. While equipment such as surveillance cameras has been more business-oriented in the past years, recent technology has made such systems available to homeowners across America. While advanced security systems often require more of an investment than a basic burglar alarm, the added protection and convenience such systems offer is well worth the additional cost. When deciding which security system is best for your specific needs, it can be helpful to know some of the options for advanced security systems.

All-in-One Systems

All-in-one systems typically include burglar, fire, and smoke alarms, and can integrate medical alarms in the same system. Advanced burglar alarms protect you and your family from unauthorized entry with a series of infrared motion detectors, glass-breakage detectors, and magnetic door and window sensors. Some systems also include surveillance equipment such as indoor and outdoor security cameras with recorders and CCTV so homeowners can monitor activity in and around their homes at all times and from any location.

Smoke Alarms

In addition, advanced security systems often include smoke alarms that can detect carbon monoxide levels in your home before you even know something is wrong. There are two main types of smoke detectors: ionization and photoelectric. Ionization detectors use radioactive material to create a clear current between two electrodes. When smoke enters your home, it blocks this current, which activates your alarm system. Photoelectric smoke detectors consist of an optical chamber that includes an infrared LED lens that adjusts light into a beam and acts as a light detector. If there is no smoke in the room, the light passes in a straight line in front of the detector. However, smoke scatters this light, which activates your alarm.

When deciding which type of smoke alarm to include in your advanced security system, it is important to keep in mind that ionization detectors are best for fast-flaming fires, whereas photoelectric sensors are best for slow, smoldering fires. In addition, ionization detectors are generally less expensive than photoelectric detectors, but are also less environmentally friendly.

Medical Alarms

Medical alarms are an excellent option for homeowners who have specific health problems or for elderly people. These alarms typically include a wireless pendant or transmitter that connects to your home security system for activation in case of an emergency. When activated, medical alarms send a signal to your alarm company’s central monitoring center, which dispatches emergency medical personnel.

Advanced security systems are an ideal solution for homeowners who want the benefit of a state-of-the-art, multi-faceted security system for home use. For more information on the most appropriate advanced security systems for your specific needs, it can be helpful to consult with a professional security company.
