Maine State Guide

For most people, Maine brings to mind images of rugged beaches, lighthouses, and lobsters. But Maine's busy coastline quickly gives way to a vast expanse of glacier-carved, forest land. This pristine wilderness covers 90% of Maine, earning it the nickname "Pine Tree State." Originally a part of Massachusetts, Maine was separated in 1819 and admitted to the Union in 1820 as a result of the Missouri Compromise.
