In 1969 Unitemp was founded upon the vision of being the best HVAC Service provider in the growing New Jersey and New York commercial-industrial market. "Excellence through world-class customer service" was the phrase that summed up the operating principles of the founders. By staying true to this theme, the company brought high level HVAC knowledge, a customer-centric focus and an intense work ethic (not to mention an unforgettable yellow and green logo!) to a service market hungry for a different kind of service provider. The phenomenal growth and success of the company proved that customers wanted HVAC service that matched the growing demands for reliability presented by their high-tech offices, computer rooms, industrial process plants, semiconductor labs and pharmaceutical facilities. 20 years later, in another part of New Jersey, a young service mechanic was growing frustrated with the short-sighted vision prevalent in much of the HVAC market. In 1984, he decided to forge out on his own. He bought a truck and founded Mechanical Degrees in the hope of breathing life into his vision of a unique, world class service company- much like the one envisioned by the founders of Unitemp 20 years before. Fast forward to 2006, Mechanical Degrees had matured into a mid-sized Mechanical Contractor and HVAC Service company, while Unitemp's owners had decided to sell the company. It seemed like destiny that these two companies with a common vision would join forces. In April of 2006 the deal was closed- Unitemp and Mechanical Degrees merged operations creating a one-of-a-kind HVAC company offering engineering, design-build, chiller and boiler service, energy management and refrigeration know-how.
