Provided by YP.comWell, by definition, a plantation is just a fancy word for a farm; most farms are located in the middle of nowhere unless towns have built up around them. The plantation homes in St. Francisville are in the country because they were working farms at one time and needed room to grow and expand and you cannot do that on the main street in town. Up and down River Road on the way to New Orleans are plantation homes that were working farms; that's why most wealthy plantation owners had town houses in New Orleans or Baton Rouge or Natchez, MS. There are lots of Holiday Inns in NO, BR, Natchez if you want company.

Provided by YP.comMy family and I (all women) decided to go to the Angola Rodeo and spend the night at the Myrtle's plantation. The rodeo was amazing! However, the trip to the Myrtle's was not. First of all, we arrived to the plantation and immediately went to the front desk to retrieve our keys. The lady who was working behind the counter was very unfriendly and rude. She acted like she didn't have time for us and that we were a burden for being guests there. We asked her when the next history tour was and she said 4:30 (we arrived at 4:00). So we went to check out our rooms that were supposedly old slave quarters (we later found out they were actually built in the 1980's and were only an addition to the house). We were five minutes late to the tour and when we asked the same woman who was behind the counter if she knew where the tour was, she said we were late and that the tour was over... Five minutes later??? We then decided to check out the restaurant/bar that was totally overpriced. We changed our mind and went to look for a restaurant near by. NOTHING was open. We drove all the way to Zachary, LA to go to Sammy's Grill, which was worth it. After returning to the plantation, we decided to play a few games outside (like hide and seek) and were told by other guests to be quiet (it was 8:30 at this time). To make a long story short, we never saw any ghosts, nothing was eerie about the plantation, the caretaker's DO NOT take good care of the home and the additions, the service is horrible, the guest rooms do not have any televisions, phones, alarm clocks, etc. The only good thing about the plantation was the complimentary breakfast in the morning that was absolutely delicious. Other than that, I advise you not to waste your time/money.
