Located in Woodhaven, N.Y., Independence Residences has been providing comprehensive community services to individuals suffering from developmental disabilities, visual and other impairments since 1984. It is a nonprofit human service agency that offers customized programs for each individual. The agency provides services for adults suffering from visual impairments, mental disabilities and illnesses, behavioral difficulties and emotional disturbances. It also provides financial support to families of individuals with developmental disabilities. This support is used for the purchase of needed equipment to assist the individual while at home, additional clothing, and to support the individual s attendance at camp. Independence Residences provides assistance to family members with its support programs and respite care services and also offers crisis intervention services.
