Amenities
Jeremy Longworth "tree Care Specialist" Strives to do all we can to preserve the Urban Forest. We offer proper pruning alternatives to topping. Any time a meristem has to be removed it does irreparable damage, if the meristems (tops) are not reduced to a lower vertical or lateral branch (tapped into the core-wood) the sprouts that grow back grow 3-5 times faster and have virtually no structural integrity. Making the hazard you were intending to prevent or eliminate even more hazardous. Also the wood present at the time of wounding decays and dies, the new growth is not affected by the pathogen (making the tree appear to be healthy) but is not tapped into the core-wood thus has virtually no structural integrity. If you have had your trees topped, depending on the severity of the wounds your tree may need to be pruned (if there are laterals to reduce to) if there are no laterals to reduce to or if the tree is too severely damaged it may need removed and replaced with a tree that can be trained properly to achieve your goal for it's placement in your landscape design. Repairing a topped tree is costly and time consuming. Remember "Prevention is the only true cure" "Trees are the largest and longest lived of all God's creations" and I believe they are living beings that they deserve to live and die with dignity. If we treat them right they have the potential not only to outlive us but outlive several generations to come.
