General Info
Igor Barani, MD, is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Barrow Neurological Institute. He is a board-certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Barani specializes in the treatment of brain and spine tumors and in the applications of radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiotherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, and brachytherapy. He is a member of the American Board of Radiology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, Radiological Society of North America, and Society for Neuro-Oncology. Dr. Barani was on faculty in the Radiation Oncology Department at the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) for nearly 10 years. He served there as vice-chair and director of clinical research from 2010 until 2015. Dr. Barani earned his medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University. He completed his residency in radiation oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and a research fellowship at Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Barani is also a director of the Barrow Artificial Intelligence Center (BAIC), where is he is exploring various applications of big data analytics and artificial intelligence to improve patient outcomes. He previously held the position of CEO and chief medical officer (CMO) at an award-winning artificial intelligence company in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Barani is using this experience to scale the benefits of this novel technology across the entire Dignity Health Enterprise.
