The Jury is still out

On the recommendation of a good friend and neighbor I tried Granny's and have to admit I was disappointed. I figured maybe it was an off night. When I enter a restauarant around dinner time and it is almost empty that is my first clue that something is wrong. Perhaps the restaurant is new. Anyway our waitress earned her good tip as she was gracious and saw to our every need. I made a reservation for five but me and a friend were the only ones to show. The cornbread was warm and delicious with plenty of butter. I noticed that the dinner menu was quite small and it did not have a good variety of entrees. I ordered the barbecue chicken with sweet potatoes and greens. My friend ordered the lamb shanks with corn and sweet potatoes. Both meals also included a salad. I should have asked for my dressing on the side as it was too much. Instead of sweet potatoes the busboy brought me an order of grits which were cold. The greens were cold and too much vinegar for my taste. Of course I sent the grits back and got my sweet potatoes which were hot and delicious. I ordered cream of crab soup ( a cup) it was lumpy and cold, also. During the course of our meal the busboy dropped my crackers served with my soup and when he brought my friend her ice tea he dropped the glass and broke it all over my friend clothes.

The was my first visit to Granny's but as I said maybe it was an off night. I will return for another visit in the future and decide if I want to make it one of my favorite places to dine.

Tasty soul food w/ a twist

This was a pleasurable experience including the period decor of mid-century styling reminiscent of your granny's parlor and living room, complete with a baby grand piano. We were warmly greeted by the wait staff and owners (one of whom actually waited on us!). The food was delicious and offered a modest variety w/o going over board in choices. I especially enjoyed the unique flavors of some of the offerings such as brown sugar lemonade and glazed salmon. The ribs were tender and delicious ( in other words "finger licking good!"). The prices were modest, which is good during these hard economic times; a complete meal for one is approximately $25 +/- excluding dessert. We will definitely keep this on our "places to go" list.
