I attended a reunion at the Herron House recently and the place has been gorgeously restored. Located in a private setting in the tiny town of Oakland, it would be an ideal getaway with access to local color. Charleston 10 miles away, the county seat of Tallahatchie County, has an court square/main street business district (no WalMart yet) and the city has been renewed by CARE (Charleston Arts Revitalization Effort). Drive through the rural hills and on into the delta starting right past Charleston, visit local blues landmarks and festivals, eat fried catfish. Experience Mississippi while resting at a home resplendently restored from the past.
