Founded in 1929, Gibbs & Cox is an independent, engineering and design firm that specializes in naval architecture, marine engineering and design, management support and consulting engineering. It has designed various hullforms, tankers, cargo ships, oceanographic research vessels, patrol crafts, surface combatants and auxiliary support ships. The firm also tests and designs fluid and gas piping, power generation systems, electronic and electrical applications, noise, shock and vibration testing techniques and propulsion system designs. It also provides support services to various government agencies, such as the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and state and local agencies. Gibbs & Cox is headquartered in Arlington, Va., with other offices located in New York City, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Hampton, Va.
