If you have never tried "rural America at its best" you need to go to Crumpton, MD. When you pull up to the "Outpost 544" they have a huge map of the the universe on the front of the building with a check mark saying "you are here". Underneath the map it says "Crumpton... the Center of the Universe". It is a crossroads town with one flashing light... Inside is a little crowded but looking "typical Americana". The people there are friendly and use "yes Ma'am or no Sir" in their daily speech. If you went in feeling a stranger, you left with a sense of community. The place is packed with name brand provisions but also old school stuff like birch beer, RC cola, scrapple and moon pies. For those of you that need to be connected to the outside world they have all the regional newspapers and some free publications. I suggested to them they should have some tourist t-shirts for people that crave "rural America" like me. "The Outpost 544" is "rural america" at its best. Thanks Brian
