General Info
OUR WORSHIP SERVICES: Provide an open, warm atmosphere for participation and spiritual nourishment in which men and women take part equally in all aspects of Jewish ritual. We have Shabbat Services every Friday evening and Saturday morning. The first Friday of each month is a "Family Service" in which we involve our children in songs, stories and worship. For our youngest families, we offer a schedule of Tot Shabbat services. Our congregation holds a monthly Service of Healing as well as celebration and commemoration of allHoliday observances, both modern and traditional. SPECIAL SERVICE OF PEACE, COMFORT AND HEALING: Held at Temple Shalom on the third Tuesday or Saturday of each month. If your days are filled with stress, if you or someone you care about is in ill health, or you simply feel the need for a few minutes in a special environment to help bring you spiritual peace, please join us. TZ'DAKAH: The word Tz'dakah derives from tzedek justice. It is through acts of justice that we as Jews have an obligation to help repair the world. An act of Tz'dakah is the means by which we restore the divine image to every human being. Thus we learn not to harden our hearts and shut our hands against the needy. Rather, we must open our hand and help those in need. The Meyer Levinson Tz'dakah box, created in Israel and donated by Rabbi Henry and Rickie Weiner, in loving memory of his stepfather, is located in our lobby. We encourage you to practice Tz'dakah at any time. EDUCATION: Temple Shalom has Religious School classes from kindergarten through 12th grade. Our children work toward Bar and Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation and ultimately High School graduation. The primary goal of our school is to develop well informed active Reform Jews who express pride in their heritage. Teaching morals and ethics, fostering a personal identification with Judaism and the State of Israel are an added part of the curriculum. Great emphasis is put on Hebrew, prayer, mitzvot, Jewish texts, history of the Jewish people, customs and rituals, and development of a personal theology. As a service to our members, we also offer a special class for children with learning disabilities. Our school is open to all children of Temple member families and also offers enrollment to children who are non-Temple members for kindergarten through second grades. NURSERY SCHOOL: Offers flexible programs for children 2 years old to Pre-K. We also offer Mommy & Me classes for children ages 14-30 months. Our school is a nurturing, caring and creative place where children learn through play. We offer Jewish values combined with an expert early childhood education. All of our programs are open to the entire community. PROGRAMS AND SERVICES: Temple Shalom has many committees and groups which enhance the lives of the community and the congregation. Some of the committees are Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Shalom Seniors ( Renaissance ) and the Junior and Senior Youth Groups. The Temple has a commitment to adult education, social action, and personal growth through programs involving Torah study, visiting scholars, adult B'Nai Mitzvah, family Shabbaton, tzedakah projects, caring community, adult kallah, outreach to interfaith families, and a host of other opportunities for enlightening, entertaining and inspiring our membership. CHOIR MUSIC: An integral part of the spiritual life at Temple Shalom. We have a volunteer Adult Choir, which is open to any member. A separate Youth Choir is open to students of all ages.
