- The Rainbow Forest Museum is located at the south entrance to the Petrified Forest National Park. The museum offers special programs including a 20-minute orientation movie, Timeless Impressions that is shown every 30 minutes. Exhibits of early reptiles, dinosaurs and petrified wood are found within the museum. The Rainbow Forest museum also includes the Giant Logs Trail, a bookstore and restrooms. The park also features one of the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood, the multi-hued badlands of the Chinle formations known as the Painted Desert, historic structures, archeological sites and displays of 225-million-year-old fossils. Located in northeastern Arizona, the Petrified Forest National Park is about 3.5 hours driving time from Phoenix or Albuquerque, N.M.
