Expedited Services was established in March 1985. The company was originally designed to offer freight brokerage services to various customers throughout the United States. In 1986, Expedited Services became a major agent for many prominent carriers and the brokerage operation enjoyed substantial growth. In 1986, a market plan was mapped out that called for sustained growth and a controlled capital investment. This investment would allow ESI to create a fleet of trucks that would guarantee service to the shippers, but not burden the company with a debt load that could not be handled. From 1987 through today, a fleet of nearly 50 tractors and more than 125 trailers has been accumulated. In 1992, a warehouse, distribution and logistical planning service was developed to offer a full-service package of dry, frozen and refrigerated services to its customers. Expedited Services has a location in Hagerstown, Md.
