Best in Metro East

If you like Sushi like I like Sushi you'll love Sushi Tatsu (forgive the pun )
One of the best places I've found for good fresh sushi. How good? Well let's put this way, my wife who has a rather timid palate and thinks all fish should be fried, baked, broiled or grilled gave me the shock of the decade.
After reading reviews about this unassuming place I just had to
give it a try.
So late Thursday night convinced my wife to go by insuring her there was something on the menu that she could handle, like some fried rice and, her known weakness, some sort of desserts.
I ordered Salmon skin roll sushi, spicy salmon roll the *jalapeno crunch roll (very good) my wife as expected got chicken fried rice.
I coaxed my wife into trying one of the sushi rolls. After her traditional cut it open and sniff test and the what's this and that battery of questions she eventually ate a portion and to my surprise she didn't make the gag me with a spoon face or do the frantic search for catchup, I had to pinch myself.
This must be some kind of sushi.
The killer was the dessert, Tempura cheese cake with ice cream, the only way to describe it is think of a hot crispy cream dough nut with warm gooey cheese cake inside with a scoop of ice cream on top only better.

That's it I've said too much go try it for yourself and let me know what you think.

FANTASTIC!!

Many people in Belleville may miss this nice spot because of its location, but they aer missing out on a treat. Just like the previous review the venue looks smaller on the outside than it is , but its a nice romantic spot. I went there for my 30 th birthday.Living in Savannah GA you can imagine I am used to fresh seafood. The tuna and shrimp was excellent. The chef misread our order and offered to fix it immediately. This is the best place in town. As I have visited several establishments that serve sushi. I could eat here once a week and the menu is very affordble.

Exceptional menu

My wife and I love sushi, and we ate there tonight to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The food is excellent. What makes this restaurant stand out is the menu - or rather, what's NOT on the menu. We ordered spicy tuna, spicy salmon, shrimp tempura, salmon skin, and yellowtail rolls off the a la carte menu. The spicy tuna and salmon were the best I've ever tasted. Instead of chopping the tuna and salmon up into a paste and mixing it with spicy mayo, the chef used large pieces of fish and added just the right amount of sauce, as well as some cucumber. It was extremely fresh as well as tasting very, very good. On the shrimp tempura roll, it came with avocado and asparagus on the menu, so we asked the chef if he minded substituting mango for the asparagus. He didn't, and mentioned that most of his food was actually OFF the menu. When we asked him to explain, he mentioned that he likes to experiment. We asked for an example. It sounded so interesting we just had to try it: salmon skin wrapped up in a maki roll, topped with smoked salmon and salmon eggs. To provide contrast to the saltiness of the smoked salmon, he topped it with paper thin lemon slices - peel and all. It was FANTASTIC. I've never tasted anything like it, nor seen it on any menu; and we've tried sushi all over St Louis.

There were only about 3 or 4 groups of people in the restaurant, so we spent quite a while talking to the chef. He told us about three or four more ideas for sushi he had, but we were so stuffed we weren't able to try them. I think next time we go back I'm just going to let the chef choose the menu.
