Forest Heights Lodge is a nonprofit residential therapeutic boarding school for boys who are struggling with emotional, behavioral, academic and social issues. Located in Evergreen, Colorado., it operates an on-ground school that admits boys between the ages of five and fourteen. The school s academic curriculum includes math, language arts, history, social studies, geography and literature. It conducts classes in physical education, arts and crafts and science. The school organizes field trips that promote the development of listening and language skills. It also offers recreational, group and family therapies. Our approach with children is to revitalize their lives through the use of a supportive environment embedded with professional, trained and committed adults. The heart of our philosophy is to make residential treatment a gratifying life experience which enables a child to live successfully in the community with others. The art work above our fireplace mantle says it best: "Life is good, come join us!" Basic concepts since inception have been: -The child must develop trust in order to grow. Close, personal relationships are what pull children back to healthy relationships. -A child must feel safe to risk both relationships and changing. -Strength and potential should be emphasized with each child. -Life should be gratifying -Treatment should be a re-education in living. Forest Heights Lodge accepts behaviorally, emotionally dysregulated and traumatized boys between five and fourteen years of age whose behaviors may include depression, anxiety, aggression, mood disorders, impulsivity, fears or obsessive behaviors, Aspergers or like developmental disabilities, and those who do not trust the care and control of others. There are no geographic limitations. These children may have learning disabilities secondary to their emotional problems such as language based or non verbal learning disabilities. We do not accept delinquent children, substance abusers, fire setters or sexually predatory children. We also do not accept children with an IQ below 80, severe brain injury or who require 24-hour medical supervision.
