Readings in the Parks is a city-wide free story telling program operated by the New York City Parks Foundation. The goal of the program is to encourage family reading as well as to motivate parents and children to use the City’s park facilities as a venue for fun and education.

The program attracted nearly twenty thousand New York City children to spring and summer programs in 2003 by offering free storytelling’s of popular children's books.

The 50 readings reach children at 45 city parks throughout the five New York City boroughs during the spring and summer. Spring readings run on weekends in May and June and summer readings run weekdays during July and August. The parks are located in low- and middle-income neighborhoods that serve a culturally diverse mix of children and families. Readers and storytellers at the park readings also represent a broad array of cultures and traditions. Verizon SuperPages funds the program.
