The King Country Library System (Greater Seattle, WA) operates a literacy program known as "“Ready-Set-Read” and the “Live Homework Help” programs.

The donation for the “Ready-Set-Read” program will support a literacy program that encourages reading for information and leisure, and develops reading skills for elementary school-age students as a lifelong habit.

This program is structured for students to read 20 minutes a day for 20 days within a period of one month. The KCLS visits schools and provides a “Reading Challenge” form to students. Once the forms are completed, students take the forms to their local library to select a book. This grant will enable the library to purchase books as incentives for elementary school-age students who complete the reading program. Verizon Information Services funded this program last year.

The “Live Homework Help” is a new technology program that provides tutoring to students through an online service. The program will be available to students in grades 4 thru 12 at all 41 library branches and throughout the KCLS online access (eAnswer service) 70 hours a week, including evenings and weekends.

Verizon SuperPages is a partner with the King Country Library System.
