The Fort Wayne Wizards Minor League baseball team located in Ft.Wayne, Indiana operates a unique community reading program that combines enthusiasm for reading with baseball. The program rewards area students for their reading accomplishments by providing exciting prizes, and valuable game tickets as students achieve their reading goals.

Over 200 schools and libraries participate to promote the fun of reading through the Wizards Reading Club. Students are introduced to the program each spring and summer by their teacher or librarian. More than 80,000 children participated in the program in 2003. Students track either the minutes or pages they read and are encouraged to chart them around the bases as they move towards a specific reading goal - or a home run. As they reach each base they receive a prize. Those children who hit a home run win "A Day at the Ballpark", where they are honored by parading around the field before watching a Wizards game.

The support of Verizon SuperPages allows the Fort Wayne Wizards Reading Program to expand each year and to further emphasize the importance of reading through the fun and excitement of baseball.
